ESL Student Blog: Inauguration Day - Key Words
POSTED BY Olga Galperin AT 11:08 PM
- Today we were able to see the history in the making (unfolding in front of our eyes). A son of a black Kenyan father and white American mother, Barack Obama is America’s first black President.
Barack Obama has officially become the 44th President of the United States following his inauguration ceremony - an event marking the official start of assuming the duties as the President. He took an oath (promise) to: ...”execute the office of president of the United States faithfully..and ...preserve, protect and defend the constitution of the United States.”
His predecessor (previous person in the same position) G. Bush is the outgoing (currently leaving the office) President of the United States. This way, Barack Obama is G. Bush’s successor (the next person to take this position).
Did you watch the inauguration ceremony live (in real time)? Were you following the TV and newspaper extensive coverage (reporting) of this historic event? Did you enjoy the inaugural parade? Which dignitaries (important people) or celebrities did you recognize? Were you surprised by Obamas getting out of their bulletproof (preventing bullets to go through) limo to greet the crowds?
Oh.. and how did you like Michelle Obama’s gown at the inaugural ball (party)? Wasn’t it gorgeous? The first lady is said to be setting a new trend in fashion these days...
