General Description: An excellent textbook devoted to vocabulary building with a rich variety of activities. There  are 4 units organized around vocabulary domains (themes):
  • It’s About Time!
  • Let’s Eat
  • It’s a Material World
  • All About People
 
Pros:
  • Lots of illustrations clarifying the meanings of the words
  • Illustrations and charts serve as a visual for classroom discussions
  • Contextualized, words are used in short readings
    Practice exercises follow a progression from simple to more challenging
  • Discussion or writing questions are provided
    Mainly black-and-white, photocopier friendly
  • Includes a short grammar guide relevant to the target vocabulary
 
Cons:
  • No definitions are provided for the new vocabulary (no glossary either)
  • Some vocabulary seems to be appropriate for higher level students (low intermediate or intermediate), including idiomatic expressions
